Cooking with Poo wins the Diagram Prize for the strangest book title of the year.
The title comes from community chef and author, Saiyuud Diwong’s nickname Poo, which is Thai for crab, which may work well in Thai, but doesn’t translate as well into English.
The award brought by The Bookseller was first introduced in 1978 and the magazine will be making a donation to the Urban Neighbours of Hope, a charity which helped ‘Poo’ create her cookery programme.
The title will most definitely leap off the shelves and will stay fixed in people’s mind. With being awarded the prize, it had brought a larger audience to her book, and may help her writing career flourish or simply highlight the work she does in her community cookery school in Bangkok’s Klong Toey slum where she lives.
So well done Poo!
